Do you need to have legal pages on your website?
Yes, having legal pages on your website is necessary! They protect you (the owner) and your users. It doesn’t matter what kind of business have; you will need the right legal pages before launching your website. No one wants to have problems with getting sued, fined, or even shut down. That can easily be avoided by getting your legal pages done right! Let me introduce you to the best legal templates around, A Self Guru. As a blogger, finding these templates was a huge relief when setting up my website.
Table of Contents
What options do you have?
Let’s first talk about your options to get your legal pages done.
Hire a Lawyer
You can get a lawyer to make legal pages for your site. This will be the most expensive option you have. This might be the best pick for you if you need legal pages extremely customized to your business and have the funds to invest in a lawyer.
Pay for Templates
This is my recommendation.
Paid legal templates are written by a lawyer, and you fill in your business information. You get a template that’s very easy to use and still detailed enough to keep your website protected. Paid templates are a good middle ground to help keep your spending down while still getting the quality you need to protect your business.
Investing in your legal pages can save you thousands in the long run if you were to get fined or sued, or even worse, lose all your hard work by getting shut down.
Get Free Templates
When looking for legal templates, I encountered many sites offering free templates. I’m not a lawyer, so I can’t tell if they are good. In my experience, you want to invest in some things because you get what you pay for. If you don’t have any funds to invest, this might be where you want to start out.
Personally, when it comes to legal matters, I wouldn’t feel like I was getting proper protection with a free template.
Pages you absolutely must have!
You need these 3 pages before you launch your website!
Privacy Policy
A privacy policy is required by law.
What is the privacy policy? It’s a statement that informs your visitors/users how you collect and use their personal information. Why is it a requirement? You are gaining access to personal information that identifies them; they have the right to know how you collect and use their information.
Every website or online business must have a privacy policy that’s CCPA and GDPR compliant. Many states, like California, and federal laws require it. You can be audited by the FTC and fined if you don’t have a proper privacy policy.
Privacy Policy template I recommend!
What does this template include?
- Personal information you collect and how you use it, including comments and social media sharing
- Use of web beacons and pixels for ads
- Email Marketing
- Third-party links
- GDPR clause
- CCPA clause
- Children’s Privacy
- Disclosure policy
Disclaimer
A Disclaimer is essential to limit legal liability and avoid lawsuits.
What is a disclaimer for? If someone relies on your site for information, you need this legal page, especially if you plan to do affiliate marketing. A disclaimer will protect you if someone takes your advice and has a bad outcome. For example, if you recommend a product you love and someone has an allergic reaction or something, your disclaimer will protect you from getting sued.
Your disclaimer should always include affiliate disclosures. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) requires that you disclose your affiliate relationships, sponsorships, commissions, and incentives.
Disclaimer template I recommend!
What clauses does this template include?
- General Disclaimer
- Disclaimer specific to your niche
- Affiliate / third-party links disclosure
- Earnings Disclaimer
- Testimonials Disclaimer
- Sponsored Post Disclaimer
- Fair Use Disclaimer
- Limitation of legal liability language
Terms and Conditions
Terms and Conditions are very important!
What is the Terms and Conditions page for? Basically, it’s your website rules. This will state your property rights to your content and protect it from copyright infringement. Gives you the right to kick anyone off your site. It will also include your refund/exchange policies and how you will resolve disputes.
Terms and Conditions template I recommend!
This will include your terms and conditions template that works for our website and any products or services you provide. You can use it for your website or add to courses and products without buying two different templates.
My experience and honest opinion!
When starting this blog, figuring out how to create legal pages was a huge hurdle. Having them done right was my priority, followed by sticking to my small budget. When I found A Self Guru, a huge weight was lifted. Getting the templates I needed was a breeze. The templates come with step-by-step instructions that are extremely easy to follow. Oddly enough, this was the easiest part of the website setup. Just fill in your info, copy and paste it to your site, and you’re done. I know my site is protected with these legal pages.
I wouldn’t be recommending these if I didn’t use them myself. If you want to view my legal pages using these templates to see an example, here they are.
