Introduction

After reading The Fourth Wing, I was jumping up and down to start this book; I think I started it the very same night! Let me tell you, Iron Flame did not disappoint in the least. Now, I hate waiting for the next book to come out. In case you missed it, Click Here to read my review of Fourth Wing. Let’s get started.

Iron Flame

Summary: Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College – Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weakwilled, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is – unless she betrays the man she loves. Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits – and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules. But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year. Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War Collage – and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end. “ – From the book

Book Review

I couldn’t put this book down. I read about every chance I got, in the kitchen and late into the night. About every chapter had a new twist I couldn’t see coming. I was just as glued to this book as the first one. The only thing that I’m disappointed about is the fact that I have to wait for the next one to come out so I can read it too.

Do I Recommend Reading?

Extras (note: may spoil for you, read with caution)

Favorite Character

My favorite character is Violet; I know she’s the main character, but still my favorite.

Why

How could you not love her? She is determined to get things done and always tries to do what she feels needs to be done. She will always sacrifice herself to save someone else, even if she doesn’t like them. She’s smart and has the wits to get through any challenge.

Hated Character

Catriona was my most hated character throughout the book until the end, when I felt a little less hate.

Why

One thing I will give her is that she is determined and knows her strengths and how to use them. What drives my dislike of her most is her totally ruthless attempts to get Xaden back and her mind games. When she showed up naked at his bedroom door, it was like a wow moment in my mind. Maybe it’s how I wouldn’t like someone like that in real life that makes it hard for me to like her.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment had to be the fight between Violet and Catriona. Violet pushed through her mind games and almost killed Catriona out of her hate for her and her games. I liked the moment because it involved my favorite and most hated characters fighting, with my favorite one winning.
